350Z Brembo upgrade

04-01-2007,
Today we have upgraded the brakes, I recently bought some second hand 350Z track edition brakes. On the UK SXOC forum several people use them and i read good things about them. The front brakes are an easy swap, the only modification you have to do is enlarge the holes from 14 to 15mm's (use a good drill) and then after modifying the dust shield.

bolt them straight on.

The rear brakes are a bit more work, the allignment of the holes are 6 mm off. We solved it making the top hole bigger and slotting the bottom hole. We choosed slotting the bottom hole because the top one is the one that has to cope with the biggest force when braking. The second problem we encountered was the hand brake machanism. The standart rear calipers have the mechanism build in. The 350Z ones have a drum type handbrake, but as you probably guessed the holes and mounting points are way off and can't be modifed. Because i use my car everyday and it needs "apk" (the dutch Mot) a handbrake was necesarry, in the near future we are going to install a Willwood Hydrolic handbrake with locking function.

I haven't driven the car properly after installing the rear brakes. When i changed the front brakes over i could notice a big difference, the fading was completely gone. The car was biting in the asphalt and i had the feeling my seatbelt was eating away my shoulder. Can't wait to drive the car again now the rear brakes or on. If there are brake balance issues I'll try to mount a Z32 BMC to solve that. If not a brake balance controller will be the way to go. To be continued...
